Introduction:
On the eventful morning of 29th July 2023, I embarked on an exciting adventure with two of my friends to visit the picturesque Solanpada Dam in Karjat. Equipped with my trusty Bajaj Avenger Cruise 220, and my friends on a KTM 200, we set out on a journey filled with camaraderie, scenic landscapes, and delicious treats.

A Rainy Start and First Halt:
Our journey began at the crack of dawn, at 6 am, from our homes. As we rode amidst light drizzles, we could feel the anticipation building up. Our first halt was at Shedung toll naka, where we indulged in some much-needed refreshments - piping hot tea, coffee, and biscuits. The rain started to pour heavily, reducing visibility, but it did not dampen our spirits and we started our ride towards Karjat.
A Taste of South India in Karjat:
Arriving in Karjat, we stumbled upon a small shop owned by Anna, selling tempting Medu Vada and Idli. We couldn't resist the budgeted yet delightful breakfast and even packed some for later. After savouring the delicious South Indian breakfast, we continued our journey towards the much-awaited destination.
The Off-Roading Adventure:
To reach the dam, we had to navigate through a village and indulge in a thrilling off-roading experience. While the terrain wasn't too difficult, it offered its fair share of mud, stones, and rocks. Nonetheless, the adrenaline rush was worth every moment. Along the way, we encountered some difficulties in finding the right path, but we eventually managed to reach the dam.
Solanpada Dam - A Tranquil Oasis:
Upon reaching the dam, we were greeted with a peaceful ambience. Due to section 144 being in effect in the Raigad district, the area was unusually empty. The dam's water level was high, though not overflowing, offering an inviting spot to sit and enjoy the serene surroundings. We made a mental note to revisit the dam post-monsoon to witness its true beauty.
Muddy Waters and Memorable Moments:
The dam's wall was broken, causing the water to appear muddy. Nevertheless, this didn't deter us from capturing the breathtaking scenery through countless photo shoots and videography sessions. The beauty of nature, accentuated by the monsoon rains, left us in awe.
A Joyful Stop at a Stream:
On our way back, we chanced upon a sparkling stream and couldn't resist stopping for some fun in its flowing waters. Nature's playground became a backdrop for unforgettable moments and picturesque photographs.
Rainy Rides and Homeward Bound:
As we resumed our journey, the rain decided to join us once again. Heavy showers and Sunday traffic made the ride back challenging, but the thrill of adventure overshadowed any discomfort. Our next stop was back in Karjat for a delicious lunch, followed by enjoying the packed treats from Anna's shop.
A Lone Ride Towards Mumbai:
With heartfelt goodbyes to my friends, I continued the ride towards Mumbai, alone but content with the experiences shared. Making my way through the familiar roads, I finally reached Nerul, where I stopped to fuel up my bike's tank before heading to the office.
Conclusion:
The journey to Solanpada Dam in Karjat was an unforgettable experience, filled with camaraderie, natural beauty, and mouthwatering treats. Exploring the serene dam amidst the monsoon's allure was a decision well made. As I look back on the trip, I am grateful for the memories created and eagerly anticipate more adventures that lie ahead.
